What is baptism?
Baptism is a public display and confession for the individual who has received the saving benefits of Christ’s atoning work and has become His disciple. Therefore, in obedience to Christ’s command and as a testimony to God, the church, oneself and the world, a believer should be baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Water baptism is a visual and symbolic demonstration of a person’s union with Christ in the likeness of His death and the power of His resurrection. It signifies that his/her former way of life and the pursuit of sin have been put to death and vividly depicts a person’s release from the bondage of sin. Christ Community Church practices and teaches “believer’s baptism.” This means that we perform baptism for anyone who has repented of sin and put their faith and trust in Jesus Christ alone for justification and righteousness.
Picture of new life
“Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.” – Romans 6:3-4
Represents deliverance from the bondage of sin
“For I want you to know, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea.” – 1 Corinthians 10:1-2
Sign of the new covenant
“In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead.” – Colossians 2:11-12
